    Clair-Fort Kent International Bridge

    The project for the replacement of the international bridge between Clair, NB and Fort Kent, ME included the construction of a new four-span steel girder with composite deck bridge, approximately 230 m in length, and the improvement of the U.S. Route 1 bridge approach intersection.

    The design of the bridge had to meet the vertical clearance requirements associated with a river prone to spring freshet ice jamming, while also respecting the vertical grade challenges imposed by existing infrastructure.

    Eighth Street Single-Leaf Bascule Bridge

    The Eighth Street Bridge over the Sheboygan River has a single-leaf bascule span of 90 feet and supports four traffic lanes and two sidewalks. Exp provided Bridge Design including Architectural Design, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering for Machinery, along with Structural and Civil Engineering services. This structure redefines bascule bridges by combining three major benefits: The bridge does not have a counterweight; it has a concrete roadway deck slab; it has a very simple and unusual structural framing system. These benefits are combined with a computer-controlled hydraulic bridge drive system.
    This project was honored with the AISC Prize Movable Bridge Award, ACEC Excellence in Engineering Design, ASCE Honor Award, WisDOT Annual Award for Excellence in Highway Design, Wisconsin APWA Public Works Project of the Year Award, CECI Honor Award, and a U.S. Patent (No. 5454127) from the U.S. Patent Office.

    The main road from Timehri to Rosignol included 256 structures, with a stretch running alongside a river prone to over-flowing when earthen river defenses fail. Our team's work included design services to rehabilitate the highway, and widen bridges and environmental and hydraulic/erosion assessments. Structures were of various types, including timber decks, pre-cast concrete, greenheart timber piles or reinforced concrete piles. This is a $3M US project.

For Phase II we assisted the Township in securing additional funding beyond the typical limits imposed by the HBRRP Program under FHWA's Innovative Bridge Research and Deployment (IBRD) Program.     This three-lane suspension bridge connects north and west Vancouver with the City of Vancouver. We were retained as quality managers and geotechnical engineers for the $130M design/build bridge rehabilitation project and seismic upgrade. We devised a seismic resiliency solution which adapts to the varying and diverse soil conditions. We provided geotechnical engineering services to the seismic upgrading component of the project, using state-of-practice methods and advanced numerical analyses through the computer program FLAC. Our innovative and proprietary Quality Management System was adopted by more than 100 consultants, suppliers and contractors involved in the project.

    Maple-Oregon Bridge over Sturgeon Bay

    We prepared contract plans, special provisions and estimates for the design of a new double-leaf rolling-lift bascule bridge over Sturgeon Bay. The new bridge is 1,057-feet long and is composed of a double-leaf bascule span over 200-foot wide channel and eight fixed approach spans. The 50-foot wide bridge cross section includes two 12-foot traffic lanes, two 6-foot shared areas and two 6-foot sidewalks. The bridge received the Excellence In Highway Design Award from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and a Design Honor Award from ACEC Illinois.

    This project began in 1999 as a transportation study for the City of Saint John that included the development of a traffic simulation model, a comprehensive analysis of the traffic impacts of 23 proposed road network improvements located throughout the city, and recommendations for eight network improvements to be implemented over a 20-year time frame.

    The new One Mile House interchange includes a 600-meter-long four-lane bridge that spans the 4 lanes of Route 1, the CN Rail marshalling yard, Marsh Creek and a major four-lane arterial city street.

    One of the largest reconstruction sites in the city's recent history, the Patrick-Hackett Bridge is the main access into Granby's downtown core. To accommodate growing traffic volume, the project involved three components; widening the bridge, redesigning the approaches and improving transportation and traffic metrics. The design was to include sidewalks on both sides of the bridge, overhanging lookouts, street lights and furniture to match those in the downtown area. Our environment, urban infrastructure, civil engineering, transportation, electrical and landscape architecture teams all contributed to the project's success. Services included; front-end engineering and design, structural, highway and municipal engineering bid documents, on-site monitoring of bridge widening and approach construction work.

    The I-70 MRB Crossing - I-70 Connection

    Exp provided Phase II design engineering services for the I-70 Connection, approximately 0.9 miles of interstate highway from south of an interchange with proposed Relocated IL 3 (approximately Packers Avenue) to the new river bridge Illinois approach structures in Fairmont City and adjacent communities as part of the New Mississippi River Bridge (MRB) Project. The project is on new alignment and connects the MRB with the I-70 Tri-Level Interchange.

    The project includes dual I-70 structures approaching the New MRB from the Illinois side approximately 1,285' in length along the centerline of I-70. Each bridge is five spans of continuous plate girder construction with approximate span lengths of 225' / 280' / 280' / 280' / 225'. The bridges are on curved alignment.

    Turcotte Bridge

    The Turcotte Bridge, originally constructed in 1932, is a vital link between both banks of the Richelieu River in Quebec and was in need of significant repairs. Our rehabilitation plan included replacing one of the two trusses and a major portion of the deck along with the mechanical and electrical elements of the lifting span system and the replacement of many motors and damaged components. Prior to starting the work, a large ship collided with the bridge, prompting emergency repairs and replacement of one of the two fixed steel spans. Repairs were made while maintaining vehicular, waterway and pedestrian traffic flow.

    This project included reconstruction and widening of 3.4 miles of interstate.The work included replacement of the 1,335 foot-long mainline bridge over the Fox River as well as two cross road bridges. The scope also included modifying the existing Aurora Toll Plaza to provide additional Open Road Tolling Lanes. We provided planning, rehabilitate/replace evaluations; existing arch bridge inspection and rating and final replacement structure design.
