    Award :

ACEC-NB 2014 Showcase Awards - Engineering Excellence Award, Environmental/Society category

    Landfill Gas to Energy Project

Reduction or elimination of methane gas discharges was identified by the client as the main objective for this project. With the help of exp, a landfill gas collection and utilization project was completed (from 2009 to 2013) to further minimize the environmental footprint of MSW management operations. The services we provided included project management, development and planning for the entire project, conduction of a landfill gas production pilot study, and design and construction of the landfill gas wells and collection system.

This project has been key in the reduction of greenhouse gases. It's also a perfect example of how innovative thinking can turn a potentially harmful situation into one with environmental, economic, and social benefits.

    Award :

2010 - Canadian Urban Institute Conference - People's Choice Award

    Little Mountain Demolition & Recycling

Little Mountain Housing was the oldest public housing development in Vancouver. We provided project management and environmental services, including appropriate disposal and remediation of impacted soils and hazmat abatement. Exp pushed the recycling envelope for the project - everything that could be salvaged and/or recycled was reclaimed, even the kitchen sinks! We achieved a recycling level of about 92% and approximately $100,000 was generated by selling wood chips from wood materials from the demolished properties. The project won the '2010 People's Choice Award' from the Canadian Urban Institute Brownie Awards.

    City of Toronto

    Location :

    Toronto, ON, Canada

    Organic Waste Facility

In a joint venture with W.S. Nichols, CCI and BTA (Germany), our team developed a design/build facility, designed to process primarily source separated organic waste (at least 100 tons per day), as well as mixed waste. This forms part of the Waste Management Strategy for the City of Toronto, which is currently exploring large scale expansion of this particular technology. The facility includes a front-end mixed waste material recovery facility coupled with organic separation and a patented anaerobic digestion process. The process generates methane which can be converted to green energy and quality compost.
