Located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, the Carrier Center for Intelligent Buildings (CIB) is a unique, one-of-a-kind technology, innovation and collaboration center. In addition to technology display areas the 224,000 SF facility includes office space, a central atrium, briefing center, cafeteria and state-of-the-art conference space. While most buildings hide areas such as mechanical rooms and chiller plants the CIB instead brings these elements to the forefront so employees, visitors and customers can get a real-time, first-hand look at how Carrier’s technologies work.
Sustainable building systems and engineering, including lighting and technology systems, helped achieve Carrier’s desired system visibility and obtain LEED-NC Platinum certification — with 60% energy reduction and 36% inside water use reduction. Design of a 350kW solar PV array on top of the facility’s adjoining parking garage captures solar energy for use in the building – offsetting 28% of expected energy costs and doubling as shading feature for cars so they do not overheat. Lighting throughout the building showcases the building’s technologies, enhances the customer experience and contributes 36% to the building’s total energy savings.
This new headquarters is the first commercial building in Florida to achieve WELL Platinum certification.
