Located in the heart of Waterfront Toronto’s east Bayfront community, is the new George Brown College Waterfront Campus. This award-winning remediated brownfield project was Toronto’s first college campus along the waterfront.
The new academic building features classrooms, labs, retail and underground parking. This campus is dedicated to teaching health sciences and setting the standards for interprofessional team-based education for health care graduates.
The building and design incorporates the latest sustainable technology and innovation including environmental restoration, district energy and a green roof to realize reductions of up to 30% in energy consumption, 40% in water usage and up to 90% in waste diversion. A risk-based approach was adopted to address potential human ecological risks associated with remedial works.
Retained by George Brown College, EXP provided consulting expertise including detailed geotechnical & environmental investigations, construction reviews and materials testing. EXP was also a key member of the Construction Advisory Committee, contributing innovative solutions to the challenges of redeveloping a contaminated site so close to the lake.
