Maison des ainés et alternative de Sherbrooke is the first of its kind to open in Quebec. The facility accommodates 120 residents and features 84 apartments for seniors and 36 for adults with physical or intellectual disabilities. The building was designed to create a safe, friendly and welcoming space, while reducing environmental impacts. As a LEED Silver certified building, the design reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as well as water and energy consumption.
EXP’s energy management professionals and mechanical, electrical, civil and structural engineers supported the project. Maison des ainés et alternative de Sherbrooke was recognized with a LEED distinction for its integration of sustainability principles into every stage of the building’s construction, from design and construction supervision to commissioning.
The building achieved LEED Silver certification through several key features:
- Mechanical systems, which maintain indoor air quality. These include high-performance systems with high-efficiency filters and CO2 monitoring sensors.
- Mechanical and electrical engineering systems to optimize residents’ comfort. These systems efficiently use building energy resources by integrating control strategies to maximize energy exchanges.
