With the construction of a new hospital complex behind the site of the Quebec City Enfant-Jésus Hospital, Partagec relocated one of its hospital laundry service installations to make room for the hospital expansion. To increase productivity and better serve Quebec City hospitals, Partagec modernized and centralized its activities in a new 10,300 m² laundry facility equipped with high-performing equipment.
The new facility comprises separate zones for clean and soiled laundry, an area dedicated to medical linens as well as office space. The process automation component of the project led by EXP included the transportation of material by monorail, conveyors and trays, as well as equipment for production, washing and chemicals distribution. The use of Revit allowed for the optimization of the building’s massing and more specifically its height.
EXP designed the new facility’s chilled water system in accordance with fundamental energy efficiency principles, providing optimal air conditioning of the facility’s different zones. The former facility’s water chiller and water tower were relocated to the new facility to optimize construction costs. The water tower system was designed to protect against contaminants.
Significant energy savings were achieved through heat recovery from wash water, installation of condensing boilers, energy efficient lighting and variable speed pumping of cooled water.
