Located in southwest Calgary, the Providence Area Structure Plan (ASP) covers over 2,000 acres and will be home to 10 new neighborhoods and over 30,000 people upon final build-out. Developments supported by this plan include Alpine Park, Vermilion Hill and future developments still in the planning stages. Building off existing natural amenities, this conceptual plan considers a wide variety of features needed to enhance the lifestyles of future residents. Fish Creek Park is within walking distance and the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory is only a short drive away – enhancing the already spectacular views of downtown Calgary to the north and Alberta’s beautiful wilderness in the snow-capped mountains to the west.
EXP’s teams provided engineering support for the ASP to further development of this major growth area. EXP completed subsurface geotechnical investigations and preliminary design of water resources as part of the ASP. Master servicing reports were developed for sanitary, water and storm servicing. These critical reports underpin the effective and efficient servicing between multiple developments. They will help landowners implement well-informed street and utility design, among other elements. The Providence Master Drainage Plan (MDP) analyzed 4,400 acres and is the most comprehensive master stormwater report in the City of Calgary’s history. As part of the MDP, EXP performed conceptual design of constructed wetlands and helped shape wetland retention policy through comprehensive hydro-period modelling, multi-year pre-development monitoring and hydrogeological assessments.
EXP supported crucial stakeholder engagement, involving workshops with the City of Calgary, public open houses and meetings with the Tsuut’ina Nation.
