As part of its downtown revitalization, the Town of Granby wanted to give its public market a new permanent structure and create an all-seasons gathering place for cultural and community events. As a true community space, the project was carried out in collaboration with Marché public de Granby, Commerce Tourisme Granby and Vie culturelle et Communautaire de Granby.
With a focus on sustainable development and innovation, use of local wood for the structure (spruce-pine glulam) has helped reduce Granby’s carbon footprint while providing the market with a modern, vibrant and dynamic atmosphere.
The structure’s fixed roof enhances the user experience while safely protecting the market’s growers, merchants and artists. A skylight in the roof warmly bathes the space in natural light. Electrical systems were aesthetically integrated into the structure so that wiring is not exposed.
