The new Saint-Georges Multisport Complex brings a 76,200 SF expansion to Saint-Georges high school. Built in the heart of the site, adjacent to the original 1974 building, the new structure incorporates sustainable features and ultramodern design.
Designed to complement the existing high school building, the expansion adds four classrooms, two training rooms, a 10-lane competition swimming pool, double gymnasium, locker rooms, bleachers, multipurpose room and an outdoor amphitheater.
The new complex reinforces the importance of health with inclusive and sustainable features. The use of wood in several sections enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal while reducing the building’s carbon footprint. Skylights provide natural lighting and two underground retention basins reduce the flow of stormwater into the city’s sewer system.
The complete program for the new complex includes:
- 4 classrooms
- 2 academic training rooms
- semi-Olympic-sized pool with capacity for 275 swimmers
- 2,310 SF recreational pool with capacity for 90 swimmers
- double gymnasium with locker rooms
- bleachers accommodating up to 200 people
- multipurpose room
- administrative area
- technical rooms
- exterior amphitheater with tiered benches
The sport complex was recognized with the People’s Choice Award at the Ordre des architectes du Québec’s Prix d’excellence en architecture awards, which recognizes the architectural quality of projects completed throughout Quebec.
