In 2007, The University of Central Florida (UCF) committed to climate neutrality by 2050. Since then, UCF has made remarkable progress by reducing campus energy use by 42% while saving $30 million in operations expenses and other costs to the university. By employing advanced energy-saving technologies and the use of clean energy, buildings are becoming more efficient and sustainable.
The Alumni Center is situated at the heart of campus, across from the Arena and student HUB. The building is centrally located and regularly utilized by students, alumni and the community for social gatherings, board meetings, awards banquets and other events.
As part of UCF’s sustainability initiatives to improve existing infrastructure to the latest standards of efficiency, existing buildings are being analyzed to ensure they are operating to the highest standards. EXP provided LEED administration for the Alumni Center, which achieved LEED Gold under the v4 O+M: Existing Buildings rating system.
EXP also provided ASHRAE Level 1, 2 and 3 audits, compiled a list of energy conservation measures, determined payback for the capital expenditure projects and completed a retro-commissioning effort for the airside systems in the building.
