West Park Healthcare specializes in rehabilitation and complex continuing care to help individuals manage difficult health challenges such as lung disease, stroke, amputation and musculoskeletal issues arising from a life-changing event or illness. The new West Park Healthcare Centre supports a healing environment for patients, families, staff and the community.
This new 6-story, 730,000 SF tower includes 314 inpatient beds with 80% single-bed rooms, significantly increased outpatient care spaces, new green space and outdoor rehabilitation areas. The new tower replaces the existing hospital, and better positions West Park Healthcare to deliver inpatient, outpatient and outreach services to meet Ontario’s future healthcare needs.
Working with Infrastructure Ontario, West Park Healthcare Centre and partners, EXP provided planning, design and compliance (PDC) consulting services for structural, mechanical, electrical, technology design (ICAT, AV and security), energy modeling, building science and civil engineering for this design, build, finance and maintain (DBFM) project. The program consists of a new main tower, parking areas, central utility plants, demolition of existing main buildings, as well as services linked to the existing long-term care facility. With sustainable features, the new hospital is expected to achieve at least LEED Silver certification.
The new hospital is equipped with advanced ICAT technologies throughout, and incorporates full emergency power backup, innovative HVAC designed for pandemic readiness and bringing 100% fresh air into the building, as well as two 10-bed tuberculosis (TB) in-patient pods with a separate HVAC system that can be converted to serve those with other severe respiratory illnesses.
The new hospital is scheduled to open to patients in 2023, providing rehabilitation, complex continuing care and community outreach health services.
