Each year, our EXP teams seek opportunities to create local change, recognizing it can have a global impact. Through our projects, volunteer efforts and donations, we aim to improve communities. EXP provided building science services for three Covenant House Vancouver buildings. Covenant House Vancouver’s mission supports youth experiencing homelessness by providing basic needs including meals, housing, showers, clothes and mental health services.
Building Science services
EXP’s building science work with Covenant House Vancouver began on their expansion project. As the city grew, as did the need for youth services. EXP provided building science services to NSDA Architects on the now complete five-story, 21,000 sq. ft. building at 1302 Seymour Street and 1280 Seymour, a 10-story building with 60 short-term shelter beds with a fitness center, art therapy room and classrooms.
“Prior to beginning our work with Covenant House Vancouver, I had driven past their old building on Seymour Street hundreds of times. It was only after I had the opportunity to work on both of their two new Seymour Street buildings and tour the interiors after completion that I could truly appreciate the important services Covenant House provides for supporting youth who would otherwise be homeless and on the streets of Vancouver. I am proud our team could be a part of these significant projects for the community,” said Director, Building Science, Western Canada Dino Chies, P.Eng.
326 West Pender Street | Covenant House Building Envelope
In 2024, EXP’s building science team assisted in the renovation of a 26,500 sq. ft., four-story building at 326 West Pender Street for the Rights of Passage Program, managed by Covenant House. The expansion supports the current and future needs of youth transitioning into adulthood. EXP worked alongside NSDA Architects, MCW Group of Companies (M+E Engineers), Holistic, RAM, CitySpaces and Chandos.
Fast forward
Our dedication to our clients extends beyond the completion of their projects. After the renovation, the team continued to observe the positive effects on the local community. When the opportunity to further support the youth through a donation presented itself, the entire team was committed to making an impact. EXP has been a donor for several years now.
“At Covenant House, our mission extends beyond offering a roof and a meal for youth experiencing homelessness. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive services such as life skills training and mental health services to help the youth confidently transition to independent living. With the right infrastructure and donations, we can continue our mission. Thank you to EXP for their incredible work on our expansion projects and generous $1,100 donation. We are grateful for the impact they continue make on our community!” said Covenant House Vancouver Philanthropy Officer – Corporations & Foundations Maya Alibudbud.
