The Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport Integrated Operations Center recently won a Best Projects Award in ENR Texas & Louisiana’s 2021 Best Projects competition. The annual competition assembles a panel of experts from the AEC industry and selects the best projects across 18 categories. This year, the DFW Airport Integrated Operations Center won for Best Airport/Transit Project.
The 40,000 SF Integrated Operations Center was designed to provide a complete “360-degree situational awareness” oversight of all airport operations while equipping DFW airport with a single integrated operations HUB. Conceptually, the designers compare the concept of the core, which oversees daily and emergency operations, to a campfire and the support spaces, which supply various support functions, as surrounding tents. EXP provided architecture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and landscape architecture services to the project and kept sustainable integration at the forefront throughout the design process.
“In collaboration with the DFW Leadership and project team, we achieved DFW’s goal of co-locating airport operations controls into a truly integrated and forward-looking facility that provides resiliency and flexibility for the long term and serves as a model for Operations Centers throughout the US aviation landscape,” said EXP’s Senior Vice President and Design Director, Tom Hoepf, FAIA.
