EXP’s transportation team has their sights set on improving connectivity, safety, community involvement and mobility with multi-modal facilities in Wisconsin. As the designer of the new Pedestrian Bridge and Trail for the City of Appleton, EXP is providing structural design for the new 650-foot-long by 16-foot-wide bridge over the Fox River in downtown Appleton.
The new pedestrian bridge crossing between Appleton’s upper dam and middle dam will provide the missing trail link between Ellen Kort Peace Park and the North Island Trail, via Pullmans pathway and Edison/Olde Oneida Street. The new bridge will provide several benefits to the community including a transportation linkage from the north side of the Fox River to the south side; a fully accessible route for all users; and public access and connection to the river including a lookout over the islands and river. The bridge also serves economic benefits to local businesses by providing connection and transportation in downtown Appleton. EXP is a trusted advisor to the City of Appleton and is providing comprehensive services including structural design, hydrology/hydraulics engineering, survey, agency coordination, permitting and construction administration.
EXP’s transportation lead in Wisconsin, Rowland Hoslet shares, “This is an important project for Appleton and EXP. Pedestrian bridges are unique, often iconic and sustainable transportation solutions for communities. By leveraging our design capabilities and expertise across disciplines, we offered a solution to meet the City’s requirements for safety, accessibility and enhanced aesthetics. We look forward to delivering more projects that reflect the community’s investment in transportation.”
Construction for the Pedestrian Bridge and Trail is anticipated to begin in 2022.
