A day of sportsmanship and the spirit of competition brought EXP’s Central Canada team together for the 2022 Annual Softball Tournament. Since 2012, the team’s softball tournament has been a summer ritual, only taking a brief hiatus for two years during the pandemic.
This year four teams, EXPect Destruction, Green Machine, EXP Pirates and the Corporate team and over 60 staff members, participated in the tournament. With EXPect Destruction’s captain, Chris McConnell, at the helm, the team won the tournament and EXP’s Brampton office brought the trophy home this year. The Environmental and Markham office teams formed an alliance – the Green Machine and won second place under Alessandro Girardo’s leadership! EXP Pirates’ Captains John Sousa and Rajeev Ahuja came out with a great team that included some power hitters, including Kevin Barna. Their team had staff from infrastructure and the Markham building team. The Corporate Team was formed in collaboration with the lab team and their captain, Xing Li, and brought their A-game.
“We could not have asked for a better day; it was sunny, without a cloud in the sky. The day was filled with all sorts of emotion, the joy that we could reconnect with each other, the elation of ‘getting back to normal,’ and the tournament’s sportsmanship. In the end, everyone enjoyed the day,” said organizers, Ramona Seepaulsing and John Sousa.
The captains chose the most valued player from their respective teams this year to be presented with trophies at the end of the day. This year’s most valued players were Aiden McConnell from EXPect Destruction, Sarah DiBattista from Green Machine, Nadia Corsetti from EXP Pirates and Daniel Lahey from the Corporate Team. Congratulations to the winners!
