Global engineering, architecture, design and consulting firm, EXP, is pleased to announce the promotion of Thomas Hoepf to senior vice president and design director for global operations. With more than twenty years of experience, Tom is a recognized leader in architecture and design and has led the collaborative design on projects for public and private sector clients across building types including multimillion-dollar transit, aviation, university and federal facilities. In his new role, Tom will be responsible for design leadership and advocacy across all sectors of EXP’s major markets, to elevate design excellence through integration of all disciplines on all project types.

Tom’s design leadership has resulted in the success of high-profile projects across multiple markets, including the recently completed 95th/Dan Ryan CTA Terminal Station, winner of AIA Chicago’s 2019 Distinguished Building Award and Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year Award and the CTA Washington/Wabash Elevated Station, winner of AIA Illinois’ 2019 Mies van der Rohe Award and the 2018 AIA Chicago Distinguished Building Award. Tom also led the design of several award-winning modernizations for Federal Buildings and Courthouses for the GSA throughout the US, the Carter Woodson Regional Chicago Public Library and renovations at the world’s largest airports.
Tom shares his design philosophy, “Architecture communicates the ideals of the people it represents. Buildings are physical evidence of our shared values and our connection with our government, our city and our neighbors. Whether it be a courthouse, a train station or park shelter, buildings should be designed with the highest level of care and purpose. Design excellence is truly an outcome of an integrated and collaborative process involving not just architects, but also stakeholders, planners, engineers and constructors.”
As a mentor, he contributes to the next generation of designers through his continued involvement with the AIA Chicago “Bridge” program and years as an adjunct professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in architecture and received his Master of Architecture degree from the University of Texas, Arlington.
