EXP is proud to announce its involvement in the construction of Canada’s first electric vehicle battery copper foil facility by Volta Energy Solutions Canada. The factory will be located in Granby, Quebec and will be Volta’s third battery-grade copper foil facotry worldwide.
EXP will collaborate with its client, Pomerleau, on this design-build project to provide the plans and specifications for process mechanics, building mechanics and electricity, civil engineering and fire protection. The controls, mechanical and electrical aspects of the process will be carried out in collaboration with Samsung Canada’s engineering teams and Volta’s subsidiary in Luxembourg.
For this major multidisciplinary and cross-collaborative project, the use of high-quality digital technologies will be a major asset at every stage from design to construction and operation. As we work to support a green energy transition, we are using technologies that enable us to make informed decisions across disciplines and project stages. “The state-of-the-art technologies will provide our teams, clients and stakeholders a clear and comprehensive picture of the project at every design stage. We can, for example, work simultaneously, detect technical conflicts between disciplines easily and automatically, and take corrective action right at the design stage. These digital technologies improve project tracking within our teams and with our client, and increase project quality,” said Senior Director, Industrial Sylvain Alary,
With full-scale production slated to begin in 2026, the Granby factory will manufacture enough copper foil to meet the growing demand for this product in the North American market.
