EXP to play crucial role in McGill College Avenue Plaza development

December 5, 2024

EXP is proud to assist the City of Montreal in developing a portion of the McGill College Avenue Plaza. Our multidisciplinary engineering and urban design teams will be responsible for creating preliminary design studies, designing the plans and specifications and assisting during construction.

In 2020, this project was the focus of an international interdisciplinary design competition, and at the time, a detailed project design was drafted for the overall project by the original competition winner. Following the contest, contracts were awarded for different phases of the design. EXP will be responsible for working on McGill College Avenue between De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Sherbrooke Street West, and at the intersection of President-Kennedy and Sherbrooke.

McGill College Avenue is used daily by tens of thousands of students, workers and tourists and is one of Montreal’s most iconic thoroughfares, connecting McGill University to the north with Place Ville Marie to the south. “The new plaza will significantly improve the experience of retailers, residents and visitors. We will create a new social environment, including adding street furniture to give users a welcoming space to relax and gather. The design also includes vegetation to mitigate the heat island effect and create more green space,” said Alexandre Lynch, Project Manager on the Urban Infrastructure team.
