Cooperation, teamwork and the drive to make a difference – that’s how Sébastien Dostie, engineer and project manager at our Salaberry‑de-Valleyfield office, describes our work on the new emergency department complex at Hôpital du Suroît. As COVID-19 spread quickly throughout Quebec from February to May, our local electrical, mechanical, civil and structural engineering experts had to be resilient and flexible to follow through on the deliverables for our client, the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest.
“The CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest needs to rapidly improve the emergency department at Hôpital du Suroît to respond to rising demand and better serve their patients,” said Sébastien. “We were already working under a tight deadline. Then, as the pandemic began to take root in March, that brought its own set of challenges. Despite these unprecedented circumstances, we rolled up our sleeves and stayed on course to meet the deadline. In just 90 days, we completed all of the civil and structural engineering work for the parking lot expansion, excavating, pouring the foundations and erecting the steel frame.”
The new building will boast 2,500 m2 of floor space and house a new medical unit with 20 beds and a short-stay unit with 10 alcoves for stretchers. The second and final part of the project (mechanical and electrical work), will begin shortly and will be completed in November. The hospital will then be able to welcome new patients.
Sébastien adds, “Our employees in Québec City, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Granby have shown a great willingness to collaborate and remarkable team spirit. I am so proud of what we have achieved in such a short period of time and even prouder that we have managed to stay on track through the pandemic. I feel a great sense of accomplishment and I’m ready to supervise work on the next phases.”
Hats off to the teams who have been working on this project!
