A housing project in Sherbrooke, QC, Maison des ainés et alternative de Sherbrooke, has earned LEED Silver certification. This facility of CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS was the first of its kind to open in Quebec. The facility accommodates 120 residents and features 84 apartments for seniors and 36 for adults with physical or intellectual disabilities. The building was designed to create a safe, friendly and welcoming space, while reducing environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as well as water and energy consumption.
EXP’s energy transition professionals and mechanical, electrical, civil and structural engineers supported the project. The project was recognized with a LEED distinction for its integration of sustainability principles into every stage of the building’s construction, from design and construction supervision to commissioning.
The building achieved LEED Silver certification through several key features:
• Mechanical systems that maintain indoor air quality, including high-performance systems with high-efficiency filters and CO2 monitoring sensors.
• Mechanical and electrical engineering systems that optimize residents’ comfort and efficiently use building energy resources by integrating control strategies that maximize energy exchanges.
To date, EXP has worked on over 420 LEED certified projects and continues to enhance the built environment through sustainable projects.
