EXP has been selected to provide the feasibility study for a multimodal hydrogen fueling facility at the Chehalis-Centralia Airport (CLS) in Chehalis, Washington. As a sponsor of CLS, the city of Chehalis has secured funding for the feasibility study, design services and public engagement services for the Chehalis Hub for Aviation and Sustainable Energy (CHAISE).
EXP, alongside HWA and DOWL, will serve as a subconsultant to The Aviation Planning Group (APG). The team will conduct a feasibility study to evaluate the viability of using electric power and hydrogen for fuel, identify potential partnerships, risks and safety measures and create a plan to engage stakeholders and community members.
Communication with stakeholders and the community will be critical throughout the project, as the team will support in informing the public about the benefits of the project. The project will not only create a sustainable option for fueling, but it will also create jobs in the area, foster opportunities for private-public partnerships and stimulate the local economy.
The proposed facility site at the airport is located along the I-5 corridor and includes 24 acres, with 6.3 acres dedicated to the multimodal hydrogen fueling facility. The land is located in Lewis County, Washington, which has been a key area for the development of hydrogen and other sustainable fueling options. The hydrogen fueling facility will provide fuel for freight transportation, personal vehicles and new aircraft that include the uses of alternative fuels for advanced air mobility (AAM) and emerging technologies.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work on this project that underscores EXP’s commitment to sustainability and offers significant environmental and economic benefits to the area. We look forward to collaborating with our partners on this project to bring a new and improved method of fueling to CLS,” said EXP’s Environmental Project Manager Joseph Gale, ENV SP.
