In San Bernardino County, rapidly developing communities and a need for improved road performance called for the widening of Phelan Road from State Route 138 to Los Banos Road. The project includes expanding the existing two-lane road, which services approximately 12,000 vehicles per day, to a four-lane highway along a 12.1-mile stretch, with one continuous left turn lane.
As the prime consultant, EXP is responsible for preliminary engineering services and environmental documentation, as well as leading project management, roadway, storm drain and traffic design, hydrology and hydraulic analysis and railroad coordination. In addition to these services, the EXP Team will provide geotechnical services to support the pavement design, land surveying, and perform utility coordination and public outreach.
“Working alongside the County of San Bernardino and Caltrans District 8 teams, EXP will deliver services to improve the traffic flow along Phelan Road for local communities,” said EXP’s Vice President, Gabriel Rodriquez.
The design of the 12.1 mile widening of Phelan Road is expected to be completed by mid-2026. For more information on EXP’s transportation services in San Bernardino, contact Gabriel Rodriquez.
