EXP’s architecture and transportation teams in Miami are using their creativity and design expertise to support a new Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) safety improvement project with a detailed 3D model.
The safety improvement project involves implementing a roundabout at the intersection of State Road 44 and Kepler Road in DeLand, Florida. This intersection experiences heavy traffic and has a high accident rate. With the addition of the roundabout, FDOT aims to keep the flow of traffic moving to reduce safety concerns and serious accidents, as well as make the area easier to travel through.
Our architecture team, guided by Senior Project Manager Marilou VanGee in Miami, created a four-foot by three-and-a-half foot 3D model that is identical to the project plan. The model was displayed at a construction open house led by Community Outreach Coordinator Britney Jones that was open to the public and allowed community members to understand the project plans and the impact the project will have on safety in their community.
“This new roundabout will improve the safety of this area, as well as the experience of traveling through it. We are thrilled to showcase our model that details the FDOT’s plans and play a role in communicating these plans to the public,” said Municipal Senior Manager Jose Santiago, PE, who started his career with FDOT as a PE trainee and understands the importance of public involvement during the planning, PD&E, design and construction process.
