The new Terrebonne Metro Distribution Center won the American Concrete Institute (ACI) – Quebec and Eastern Ontario Chapter’s 2024 Excellence Award for concrete construction in the flatwork category. The winners were announced during the awards gala held on March 14. These prestigious awards aim to highlight the quality, diversity and innovation of concrete constructions.
EXP provided civil engineering services for the design of the installation’s truck yard, recommending the use of a roller-compacted concrete (RCC) slab for the exterior circulation and parking area. This material was chosen for its capacity to support heavy loads and high traffic levels.
A mobile concrete plant was established on site to produce the slab, significantly reducing transportation time and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. With a solar reflectance index lower than that of bituminous coated material, the concrete used for the slab also contributes to lowering the heat island effect.
