Previously reachable only by ferry, the newly designed pedestrian tunnel at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport provides a quicker, more convenient passage for travelers. The 853-foot tunnel spans the length of the Western Channel of Lake Ontario and takes an average of six minutes to walk through.
As part of the FORUM Consortium for this major public-private partnership project, EXP designed the underwater excavation plan and also managed the control of dewatering activities and contaminated overburden, working under and adjacent to the lake. This critical link between Toronto’s mainland and the island is essential to the movement of over 2.4M passengers who travel through the airport each year.
