The Airport Transit System (ATS) at Chicago O’Hare International Airport is an automated people mover that connects passengers from landside to terminal and beyond.
The 2.71-mile ATS links all four terminals – both domestic and international – rental car areas and remote parking area. EXP provided engineering design for the substructure and superstructure, fixed facilities, pedestrian walkways, as well as civil engineering and field survey.
Restricted by congestion at the airport, both above and below ground, the design required several innovative design features, including unique steel crossheads, special bearings, innovative foundations and post-tensioned concrete columns.
This multi award-winning project is integral to the operational efficiency of O’Hare International Airport – ensuring optimal movement into, out of and across all airport facilities.
