The Scotiabank Pond (formerly the Buckingham Arena) is a destination spot for all winter sport and ice lovers throughout the Greater Toronto Area. The new 150,000 SF, four NHL-size ice pads, 12-month ice facility offers a 1,000-seat feature rink.
EXP’s design-build capabilities is shown through this new quad pad arena complex, which boasts a separate goal practice shooting rink, change rooms that incorporates accessible design, administration offices, a retail pro-shop, weight and cardio training facilities and a commercial kitchen with food and beverages.
Structurally, the facility includes insulated pre-cast walls and a steel entrance tower. Within its mechanics, the complex offers a desiccant dehumidification system, in-slab heating for change rooms and spectator seating, and ice plant heat recovery systems. Energy efficiency is possible through “borrowed” light from adjacent spaces, bounced-light penetration into the interior, and occupancy sensor-operated controls for lighting in washrooms, in addition to several other features.
